Woven circa 1930, this outstanding Tibetan rug is a rare testament to the region’s rich textile heritage. Departing from tradition, it features a striking design free of conventional borders, with a warm rust-toned field punctuated by five large geometric floral medallions, each rendered in its own distinctive palette.

Eight half-repeat of the same design appears along both the short and long sides, adding balance and rhythm to the overall composition. Graceful vines and vibrant, multicoloured foliage weave through the field, infusing the piece with dynamic movement and understated elegance.

What truly distinguishes this rug is its unconventional layout and the clear influence of antique Chinese silk aesthetics—an inspired fusion of Tibetan craftsmanship and Chinese artistic tradition. Rugs of this quality pieces of this calibre—both rare and artistically significant—are now seldom encountered and would be a remarkable acquisition for discerning collectors and a compelling acquisition in the world of antique Asian textiles.
