Hand-Knotted Tibetan Khaden Rug | Tangerine Peony Vines
130-02-01
This extraordinary Tibetan Khaden, dating back to the early 1900s, boasts the esteemed ‘Kashopesa’ design, attributed to a renowned Tibetan official. The rug’s vibrant red-orange backdrop serves as a striking canvas for three grand, stylized peony flowers rendered in deep navy, ivory, and tan.
These blooms, symbols of wealth and beauty, float serenely across the field, their delicate petals harmonizing with scattered leaves and flowing stems to create a dynamic, yet balanced composition.
The borders are adorned with abstract motifs inspired by mountains, clouds, and ocean waves, interspersed with water droplets, invoking a sense of protection, harmony, and spiritual connection. Of note, one of the longer sides depicts a stylized mountain, from which lush vegetation seems to rise, further reinforcing the connection to nature and the sacred landscape.
This Khaden is not only a visual masterpiece but also a profound expression of Tibetan culture, seamlessly blending artistry and symbolism.
