This antique East Turkestan rug is defined by a dense, all-over lattice composition, executed with remarkable clarity and precision. Set against a deep indigo ground, the field is animated by a repeating network of stylised vegetal and seed-like motifs, which, upon closer inspection, strongly evoke abstracted pomegranate forms.

Each unit appears constructed around a central rounded element — suggestive of the fruit — connected by angular, branching structures that resemble stems, leaves, and the internal segmentation of the pomegranate itself. These motifs are arranged in a tightly interlocking grid, creating a rhythmic, almost pulsating surface that balances strict geometry with organic vitality.

The use of strong contrast — golden saffron and warm apricot tones against a dark indigo field — heightens the visual impact, giving the design a luminous, almost textile-like quality reminiscent of ikat or resist-dyed traditions of Central Asia. The precision of the repeat suggests a workshop tradition with a well-established design vocabulary.
