A beautifully coloured example of the brocade medallion type, this rug is distinguished by the exceptional quality of its green dyes, enriched by subtle and attractive abrash that lends depth and movement to the field. The composition is further enlivened by the presence of delicate, multicoloured “ribbon” motifs, which weave through the design with a gentle sense of rhythm and ornament.

The drawing is finely articulated, with graceful curvilinear lines that reflect a high level of craftsmanship and an affinity with textile traditions. Framing the composition, the bold yet restrained Greek key border provides a striking contrast, anchoring the more fluid interior with clarity and strength.

While the design belongs to a well-established decorative type, the refinement of the drawing, the unusual chromatic balance, and the confident simplicity of the border all suggest an earlier and more discerning example within this group, likely dating to the late 19th century.
