The composition is framed by multiple borders, the outermost rendered in a warm cinnabar tone that encloses the design with quiet strength.
The inner field, in a softened olive-green ground, hosts three geometric medallions—each crisply drawn and rhythmically spaced—creating a sense of order and progression along the length of the rug. The surrounding borders, executed in deep blue and red tones, are animated by continuous angular motifs, lending movement and vitality to the otherwise balanced composition.
The “face-wrapping” format—where the design extends fully across the visible surface without a distinct lower field—suggests its intended use as a sleeping or seating rug, often folded or wrapped.
The three medallions may be interpreted as stylized endless knot (Shrivatsa) variations, a deeply auspicious symbol in Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Representing interconnectedness, eternity, and the continuity of life and wisdom, the motif reflects the philosophical concept of all phenomena being interdependent.
