This antique Tibetan khaden unfolds with a striking vertical composition, where a deep, saturated field serves as the stage for a sequence of stylized floral medallions arranged along a central axis. The design is both structured and expressive: symmetrical in its layout yet softened by the gentle irregularities of hand-knotting.

The motifs resemble lotus blossoms or peony-like flowers, symbols traditionally associated with purity, renewal, and abundance. These blooms appear to float within the field, connected by subtle vine-like elements that suggest growth and continuity. The surrounding border, rendered in a lighter tone, frames the composition with rhythmic geometric and floral accents, acting as a visual threshold between the inner symbolic world and the outer space.

The interplay between the dark ground and the luminous motifs creates a sense of depth and quiet movement—almost as if the flowers emerge from a nocturnal garden, illuminated from within.

Woven in resilient, lanolin-rich Himalayan wool, the surface would have originally carried a soft sheen, enhancing the clarity of the design while offering durability for daily use.
