This vibrant Tibetan Khaden or sleeping rug beautifully hand knotted with high quality wool of the Himalayan Plateau, presents a richly animated field, where large, stylised floral medallions—reminiscent of peonies (botan)—unfold across a luminous yellow ground. The composition is both generous and rhythmic: blossoms appear suspended within a gentle network of scrolling stems and drifting leaves, creating a sense of effortless movement across the surface.

The drawing reveals a clear dialogue with Qing-period Chinese silk brocades, especially in the fluidity of the floral forms and the presence of cloud motifs that punctuate the composition. These clouds—rendered in softly curling outlines—introduce an auspicious dimension, suggesting harmony between earthly beauty and the celestial realm.

Framing the field at both ends, the bold red bands act as visual anchors, reinforcing the textile’s intended orientation and likely function as a decorative or ceremonial hanging. The overall effect is one of celebration and refinement: a textile that brings warmth, vitality, and symbolic richness into its environment.
