A classic weaving exhibiting many Buddhist symbols, all elegantly arranged on an unusual ivory field (natural sheep's wool). The birds are drawn in a classic manner, with one foot lifted and a flower grasped in the beak—an image seen in silk weavings dating as far back as 1000 years.
The plethora of Buddhist imagery suggests this rug was made on special order in one of the many workshops that existed at the end of the 19th or early 20th century.
