A fine example of early 20th-century Tibetan weaving, this hand-knotted khaden features thick woolen tassels integrated into the selvage—a hallmark of traditional craftsmanship. Set against a deep midnight blue field are three classical gyarum medallions: the central one in vivid orange-red, flanked by blue-green medallions symbolizing balance and vitality.

Bold, multicolored cloud motifs—echoing antique Chinese silk brocades—emerge along the longer sides, reflecting Tibetan reverence for celestial symbolism. In the four corners, the “Mountain and Sea” motif anchors the design with cosmological depth.

Framing the field is a fine border with cross motifs, likely referencing the endless knot—signifying interconnection and eternity in Tibetan Buddhism. The outermost band features a striking double key-fret design, symbolizing protection and continuity.
A rare and soulful piece, rich in cultural meaning and visual harmony.
